Database Administrator

The Database Administrator supports hospitals and health systems that use our proprietary eGlycemic Management System® (eGMS®), a cloud-hosted, web-based software-as-a-medical-device platform for delivering personalized diabetes therapy management and insulin optimization. If you enjoy a combination of behind-the-scenes engineering, documentation preparation, troubleshooting and client interaction, you may be ideally suited to this position!

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, test and deploy database and related software; also, high-availability solutions such as fail-over cluster and AlwaysOn.
  • Perform comprehensive provisioning and maintenance of database applications, engines and servers, including transaction processing, referential integrity, tuning and monitoring. Administer patches, updates and upgrades on timely basis. Ensure best practice for all version migrations.
  • Manage database security and backup/recovery.
  • Develop and maintain database policies, procedures, standards and other technical documentation.
  • Set up user accounts and associated attributes, such as roles and privileges.
  • Respond to database inquiries from clients as well as internal development, QA, IT and project management teams. Offer knowledge, advice and assistance. Conduct technical troubleshooting as needed.
  • Lend expertise to all matters impacting database design, data quality and data governance.
  • Assist with development of data warehouse, reports, analytics and other projects as requested.
  • Write or troubleshoot TSQL for DDL and DML statements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 client support.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, computer science, engineering, information systems or related discipline.
  • Previous or current employment as database administrator or similar role.
  • Experience in relational database design and maintenance, including proficiency with SQL Server at intermediate level or above (to include SSIS, SSRS and other similar tools).
  • Experience in client-focused interaction.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Powershell.
  • Ability to write technical documents.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, time management and organizational skills, with significant attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and precisely (verbally and in writing) with variety of internal and external constituents.

PREFERRED

  • Experience with health information systems (e.g., electronic medical record systems; laboratory information systems; admission, discharge and transfer systems; charting systems, etc.).
  • Previous or current employment with a health information technology company, medical device company, hospital, health system or other healthcare organization.
  • Experience in software development/programming.
  • Knowledge of healthcare and health information exchange (HIE) standards and best practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in Waltham, Massachusetts or Greenville, South Carolina office.
  • Occasional travel may be required (less than 20%) to client and partner sites
  • Some work on nights and weekends may be required to achieve goals of department and company.
  • Must be able to manage responsibilities within distributed, matrix organization (many fellow employees work remotely or in different office location).
